Within the activities of “Emergency Legal Assistance to the Affected People in Rafah Due to the 2014 War on Gaza Project”, the team of Legal Aid Clinic No.9 represented by Mr. Hossam Jarghon -project coordinator-, Mrs. Suad Al-Mashni -Legal Aid Clinic No.9 advocate- and Mr. Belal El-Najjar -a volunteer advocate at Legal Aid Clinic No.9- made 2 field visits to the evacuation centers in Rafah. The first visit targeted the evacuation center in Ibn Khaldoun school, based in Kherbat Al-Adas neighborhood.
Ms. Sahar Al-Hamayda -the coordinator of Ibn Khaldoun evacuation center- welcomed the team, while the team acquainted her about activities of “Emergency Legal Assistance to the Affected People in Rafah Due to the 2014 War on Gaza Project” supported by UNDP-PAPP and the services it provide embodied in providing urgent legal aids to the vulnerable and affected groups due to the war include legal consultations, legal and judiciary representation in front of Sharia courts, and organizing legal awareness rising aim to spread the legal awareness. Then Ms. Al-Hamayda talked with the team about many social and legal problems faced the 850 displaced civilians from their houses to the evacuation center and their urgent need to the legal aids. So that, the team coordinated with Ms. Al-Hamayda several workshops, especially for the displaced people at the evacuation centers, where 2 legal awareness rising workshop will be organized, 1 workshop for men and 1 workshop for women every Sunday as of Nov. 16th, 2014. This organized workshops include a workshop for men and another for women, these workshops will be about the social and the legal problems dwellers at the evacuation center faces and affect their daily life, providing legal consultations while the team of the legal clinic in the evacuation center until the end of each Sunday.
The Second visit was to the evacuation center at Al-Shouka school, where Ms. Shefa Essa -deputy headmaster at the school- and Ms. Fawzya Al-Kurdya -a psychologist- received and welcomed the team.
Both parties talked about the mobile and immobile Legal Aid Clinic No.9, its work and the services it provide to the affected people due to the war. Ms. Essa welcomed the idea and expressed the full willingness and readiness of the administration at the evacuation center to cooperate with the legal clinic to provide the legal aids to the 950 people dwell at the center. Both parties agreed on organizing 2 legal awareness workshops at the center, 1 workshop for men and 1 workshop for women every Monday as of Nov. 17th, 2014. Within both workshops, several legal and social problems face dwellers at the center will be discussed, in addition to the legal subjects effect their daily life. At the end of the workshops, the team of legal clinic will receive inquiries and questions of the civilians until the end of every Monday in order to provide legal consultations to.
