Within the activities of “Emergency Legal Assistance to the Affected People in Rafah Due to the 2014 War on Gaza Project”, supported by UNDP/PAPP, which provides legal aids to the vulnerable and the affected groups due to Gaza war 2014, which comes within the series of legal aid projects, which established Legal Aid Clinic No.9.
Legal Aid Clinic No.9 hold a meeting at the office of the National Society for Democracy and Law (NSDL) for a number of senior Mukhtars from Rafah in order to form a social committee include 4 members of the informal judiciary.
This committee aims to support Legal Aid Clinic No.9 at the society in providing urgent legal aid to the venerable and affected groups due to Gaza war 2014 through seeking for solving the problems legal clinic receive, and give the informal judiciary the opportunity to access to satisfactory solutions for whole the disputed parties before referring to formal judiciary based on the belief of “Conciliation is the matter of the law”. The legal clinic will refer the cases which are in need a tribal intervention to the committee, while the committee will refer the cases which are in need to formal judiciary to the legal clinic.
The legal clinic will also coordinate with this committee to organize several legal awareness rising workshops in Diwans of families in Rafah, and the subjects of these workshops will be selected according to the need of each area in the sake of spreading legal awareness among the vulnerable and affected groups due to Gaza war 2014.
On the other hand, the committee expressed their impression about to project and their actual readiness to cooperate with the legal clinic, talked about the effective participation of the legal clinic in providing legal aid to the vulnerable and affected groups due to Gaza war 2014 in Rafah. The committee also welcomed the idea of the cooperation with the legal clinic in order to spread the legal awareness that helps in solving post-war problems, especially familial problems, divorce, violation, shortage in reaching the basic social services in the significantly affected border area during Gaza war 2014.
