National Society for Democracy and Law organized a meeting entitled ” Support Citizens` Rights to Access Social Basic Services Based on the Palestinian Law on July 7, 2013, in the presence of (36)persons of college students of both sexes, the meeting comes within the framework of the project” Empowering vulnerable groups legally to access basic social services “EQUALITY”, supported and funded by the United Nations Development Program UNDP / PAPP
Mrs. Suad Mashni – lawyer of legal clinic no. (9) – began the meeting with a welcome word to the participants and give Outlines of the project`s main axes on which it runs: to provide legal aid services with its three levels, support the rights of citizens to access to basic social services as a legal binding right and to develop the capacities and competencies of staff and partners to support community mediation
The meeting focused on several issues concerning the right of individuals to access the basic social services and mechanisms to support them legally, the most prominent topics: the citizens’ right to housing and the legal terms and conditions that necessary to provide good housing, the public health through improving the quantity and quality of drinking water for citizens, also the mechanism of strengthening the public health of individuals through the disposal of solid waste, in addition to combat insects and securing water supply systems, sanitation and electricity.
At the end of the meeting, the participants asserting the need for condensing the joint efforts between the official institutions and civil society organizations to educate the citizens of duties through organizing awareness campaigns and guidance to citizens as well as supporting the citizens’ access to basic social services as stipulated by Palestinian law.
