National Assembly for Democracy and Law organized a public meeting entitled ” Support Citizens` Right to Access Basic Social Services according to Palestinian Law, “this month, July 3, 2013, in the presence of (50) rural Ladies in Oraybeh area​​ – one of the remote and marginalized areas in Rafah. The meeting comes within the framework of the project” empowering vulnerable groups legally to access basic social services “EQUALITY”, supported and funded by the United Nations Development Program UNDP / PAPP.

Mrs. Mariam Kasouha began the meeting with a welcome word to the participants, pointing out that this project comes within the third phase of the legal aid projects, and  gave outlines of the main axes of the project: provide legal aid services with its three levels, support the rights of citizens to access to basic social services as a legal binding right and work to develop the capacity and competencies of the staff and partners to support the community mediation.

In her role Mrs. SuadMashni – the lawyer of legal clinic no. (9) – administered the meeting, which focused on several issues concerning the right of individuals to access to basic social services and mechanisms to support it legally.

The participants pointed that the region lacks of the basic services represented in infrastructure such as sewage and water systems where people suffering from a lack of water quantities, in addition to the lack of suitable housing as well as lack of health centers, schools, markets and shops.

Mashni stressed on the necessity to activate the role of the official participation of civil society organizations in supporting these individuals to access to basic social services.

At the end of the meeting, the participants the need for condensing the joint efforts of the official services provider and civil society organizations to help citizens access to basic social services as stipulated by Palestinian law.
