Organized by the NSDL Symposium entitled “The economic impact of the embargo on the democratic transition,” the presence of Mr. Ibrahim Moammar President of the Assembly, Salah Abu Khatla dialogue director, Dr. Ghazi Hamad, the spokesman for the Government, Mr. Majed Abu Shamala, a member of the Legislative Council and a member of Al-Ashraf Gomaa the Legislative Council and member of the Committee on Oversight and Human Rights, and Mr. Omar Shaban, an economist and professor Ahmed spoiled leader of the Movement of Islamic Jihad. Meeting brought together representatives of organizations and a select group of intellectuals and the civil and legal organizations, economists and leaders of Rafah governorate and a large crowd of citizens.

Professor and President Muammar al-Ibrahim said in the Assembly that he could not continue nurturing democracy under siege and starvation policy, and that the continuation of the economic embargo would undermine the democratic experiment in Palestine, he said, adding that the public interest of the homeland and the citizen is an essential component of democracy and without taking into account that the public interest to the homeland and the citizen loses the value of the democratic process and an important part of the principles of the Palestinian National Authority and the authority of the people and foster the Palestinian national struggle and protection of national duty and will be borne by the collapse of the Hamas movement claimed responsibility and the movement of all Palestinian factions, Fatah and the Palestinian community at large.

The professor said Omar Shaban, an economist that the issue of the economic embargo is the cause of the Palestinian street and the Palestinian economy declined drastically due to the siege and destruction, and the dredging of the agricultural land and said that no state can not build economic development without relying on the national economic plan, he said, adding that in the interest of the Palestinian economy cooperate with the Israeli economy as demonstrated by the progress of the Israeli economy and the growth and prosperity that would reflect positively on the Palestinian economy. he said, adding that the steps followed during the intifada, the occupation destroyed the structure and foundations of the Palestinian economy, especially in light of disruption of tourism and investment in the Palestinian territories, said Dr. Ghazi Hamad government spokesman, said the economic crisis is not new, but more and more deepened to become a historical situation where the pressure on the emergence of a new government and the imposition of political conditions to advance as a condition for the money and use money to blackmail the Palestinian people, all the depth of the economic crisis.

He also said that the Israeli economy, however, the link is inevitable and that we can break away from the Israeli economy gradually, and that we have the flexibility to provide a political view, acceptable to the international community. The MP Ashraf Gomaa said that the blockade and starvation in breach of all international norms and conventions, and the Legislative Council has been a crisis cell to discuss the serious economic situation and expressed the hope that out of the current crisis through constructive dialogue between all groups and from a unified national program for the advancement of the Palestinian economy and the development process within the Palestinian community, and called for international human rights organizations to stand by the Palestinian people.

Professor Ahmed and spoiled that the only way to get out of the economic blockade is the national unity and met all the political forces within the Palestinian community.

At the end of the meeting, said Mr. Salah Abu Khatla Director of the dialogue on the need to strengthen national unity as the only option out of this economic crisis and the urgent appeal to all the loved ones and friends of democracy in the world to intervene to lift the siege on the Palestinian people and not punished for their democratic choice.
