On Land Day, the first anniversary of the return marches and the breaking of the siege, The National Assembly calls upon the international community to put an end to the horrible Israeli violations against Palestinian civilians.

NSDL expresses its rejection and surprise at the silence of the international community towards the continued intentional challenge from the Israeli occupation forces toward all international norms and conventions

After a full year past from return marches and breaking the siege, it became abundantly clear the exceeding and destroying from the Israeli occupation army for all international treaties and conventions which protect civilians systematically according to instructions issued by the top of the Israeli military leadership. Israel’s brutal practices during Land Day and the first anniversary of the Return Marches and Breaking the Siege led to the deaths of four civilians, including two children, in addition to injuring more than (316), including (86) children, (29) women and journalists, and (201) wounded with gunshot, including (14) in critical condition.

According to the available information at the association field research department, on Saturday, 30 March 2019, thousands of unarmed civilians, women, children and youth gathered near the border peacefully and without causing any threat to Israeli soldiers concentrated along the border, to commemorate the anniversary of the Land Day and the first anniversary of the return marches and break the siege, in order to demand the right of return, whose affirmed by many international resolutions. In addition to demanding the relieve of the unjust siege imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007, which has caused deteriorating economic and health conditions.

The demonstrators were distributed to five camps along the border with the Israeli occupation, east of Rafah, Khuza’a in Khan Younis, Al Bureij in the central, Shajaiya in Gaza and east of Jabalia in the northern of Gaza Strip. Although no threat was posed, Israeli soldiers stationed along the border strip directly targeted unarmed civilians, women and children, medical personnel with live bullets and tear gas. In addition, four Palestinian were killed, including Mohammed Jihad Jawdat Sa’ad, a 20-year-old from al-Shojaeya neighborhood, who was killed by a live bullet in the chest while he was in the return marches in the east of Gaza, at about 7 pm.

The second victim was Adham Nidal Sakr Amara, 17, live  in Al-Tuffah neighborhood, who died immediately after being shoot in his face while he was participating in the return marches in the east of Gaza, at approximately 2pm.

The third was Tamer Hashim Issa Abu al-Khair, 19 years old, from Khan Yunis. He was killed by a gunshots in the chest during his participation in the return marches east of Khuza’a, east of Khan Yunis, at approximately 19:00.

The fourth victim was Belal Mahmud Sha’ban al-Najjar, 17 years old, from Khan Yunis. He died from a gunshots in the abdomen at approximately 3:00 pm while he was participating in the return marches east of Khuza’a east of Khan Younis. at about 10 pm.

So, the total number of victims of Israeli attacks against unarmed Palestinian civilians in Gaza Strip since the beginning of the return marches on 30/3/2018, until this statement was released, (201) were martyred during their participation in the return marches, including (43) children, (8) with disabilities, (3) paramedics, (2) journalists, and two women. In addition, (1181), including (2281) children, (352) women, (187) medical staff, and (191) journalist.

NSDL expresses its serious concern and surprise at the suspicious silence from the international community towards the Israeli occupation crimes by targeting the defenseless civilians who claim their rights which ensured by all international treaties and conventions. The Association considers that this silence is encouraging and encouraging the Israeli occupation to commit more crimes against children and civilian objects.

The Association also expresses its rejection and condemnation of the Israeli snipers targeting palestinians civilians without any legal justification. The Assembly recalls on the international community again to get rid of the  silence towards the Israeli crimes committed on the borders of the Gaza Strip.

It also confirms the need for the High Contracting Parties to abide by the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians, in particular Article 1, which states: “The High Contracting Parties undertake to respect and ensure its respect in all circumstances, as stated in Article 146 of the Fourth Geneva Convention” The High Contracting Parties undertake to take any legal action necessary to impose effective penal sanctions on persons who commit or order to commit one of the Serious violations of this agreement, set out in the following article, , which states:  Each Contracting Party undertakes to prosecute persons accused of Serious violations or an order to commit them, and to bring them to his courts, whatever their nationality is.
