The NSDL condemns the bombardment of the borders area south of Rafah, considering these operations pose a threat on the souls of the civilians.

According to the NSDL’s field survey, the Israeli raids, in which big bombs were used, caused causalities among the inhabitants of the area targeted by the shelling; in addition to the psychological repercussions on the children. Some inhabitants were obliged to leave their houses.

The NSDL is greatly concerned regarding such operations that represent grave violation of the international and humanitarian law and the fourth Geneva Convention which states the protection of civilians in the wartime.

The NSDL calls upon the international human rights bodies, especially the UN Human Rights Council, to move immediately to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, the NSDL condemns the ex-law executions being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces the latest of which is killing Hamdan Al-Astal and Khalil Abu Jarad, two young men in their twenties, inside a tunnel bombarded by the Israeli war aircrafts on Saturday 3/5/2009.
