NSDL in cooperation with the High Commissioner for Human Rights organized a training day about the mechanisms of monitoring and documenting human rights. Dr. Ibrahim Muammar, the chairman of NSDL, opened the meeting talking about the importance of the cooperation they have with the office of the High Commissioner. He considered their work in the Southern Gaza Strip as a way of enhancing the relationship with the community based societies in the South of Gaza Strip. Furthermore, he talked about the importance of organizing such meetings and trainings to strengthen the role of the community based societies in the field of human rights and international human rights conventions. Mr. Ashraf Thomas, the training officer of the High Commissioner office, gave the lecture starting with an introduction about human rights, the International Human Rights treaties that the State of Palestine had signed and their impact on human rights conditions in Palestine. After that, he tackled the object of monitoring and documenting mechanisms in details focusing on the most essential ones; which are discretion, confidentiality, security and sensitivity, not to mention that he talked about the right way to make interviews with the violations victims. The representatives of a group of active civil society organizations had also participated in this day.
