NSDL conducted a thematic workshop on the legal procedures for GBV women cases before the official institutions within the framework of the activities of the project “Protecting women’s life, rights and dignity in the Southern Gaza Strip”; funded by “Sawasya” the Joint Programme UNDP/UN Women/UNICEF, Promoting the Rule of Law in the State of Palestine.
Lawyer Rabab Al Shaer managed to run the meeting. She opened the meeting by welcoming the speakers and the attendees; and then she talked briefly about the nature of NSDL work, the legal clinic and the cases represented before the Sharia courts and official institutions.
Ms. Suaad Al Mashni, the lawyer of the legal clinic, talked about the prominent problems that widows, abandoned and divorced women encounter when coming to the money they obtained from the Ministry of Social Affairs owing to the difficult procedures. Moreover, she mentioned that such procedures should be eased.
Mr. Ibrahim Kabaja, the head of Child and Family Department in the Ministry of Social Affairs- Rafah city, talked about the services the Ministry provides for the GBV women cases and its crucial role in supporting them.
Mr. Abdel Hadi Safi, the director of the protection sector in the Ministry of Social Affairs- Rafah city, talked about the procedures the cases should follow to get the money from the Ministry of Social Affairs. In addition, he talked about the conditions in which the abandoned women get money from there.
At the end of the meeting, everybody was granted an opportunity to discuss and express their opinions and raise their questions. All of the inquiries were answered and a number of recommendations were, therefore, made to facilitate the procedures for GBV women cases before the official institutions.
