The National Society for Democracy and Law (NSDL) organized a workshop entitled “Role of Reconciliatory Figures in Achieving Social Reconciliation”, within the activities of “Emergency Legal Assistance to the Affected People in Rafah Due to the 2014 War on Gaza Project”, supported by UNDP/PAPP, which provides legal aids to the vulnerable and the affected groups due to Gaza war 2014, by UNDP/PAPP.
Dr. Ibrahim Muammar -chairman, the legal social committee, which formed by the legal aid clinic, and a number of Mukhtars and reconciliatory figures from Rafah.
Mr. Hossam Jarghon -project coordinator- opened the meeting welcoming the guests and the attendance, then talked about the project and its importance for Rafah. After that Dr. Muammar illustrated the aim of the meeting, which is activating the role of the tribal judiciary in achieving the social reconciliation, especially after the last war on the Gaza Strip which resulted big human, material and psychological damages, and to shade the light on the work of the legal social committee and activating its role to reach to the social reconciliation.
Then, Mrs. Suad Al-Mashni -project advocate- illustrated the followed procedures by the legal aid clinic in order to activate the role of the committee in order to achieve the maximal social reconciliation. She added, the formal judiciary is responsible for achieving the social reconciliation and overcoming post-war effects related to the social reconciliation.
From his part, Mr. Belal El-Najjar -a volunteered advocate at the legal aid clinic- talked about the social reconciliation and the need of the society to within the deteriorating situation the Palestinian society live. Then he talked about the last war and its effects on the concept of the social reconciliation, based on the reality.
Mukhtar Ahmed Sha’at “Abu Nabil” -the head of the reconciliatory committee- talked about the importance of the role of the reconciliatory figures in Rafah, and their heavy duty, especially after the last war, which resulted many social and familial problems, including the problems happened at the evacuation centers and other places.
At the end of the meeting, the attendance raised several questions and inquires about their social problems to solve and how to the legal aid clinic intervene legally.
The attendance provided some recommendations, they are as follows:
- Holding a national conference about the national reconciliation among the conflicted families.
- Holding several training courses and workshops with the tribal reconciliatory figures to raise the legal awareness to.
- The importance legitimate the principles the tribal judiciary.
- Holding several workshops in order to confront the tribal sectarianism.
