The National Society for Democracy and Law (NSDL) organized three legal awareness workshops at Ber-Al-Saba’a in the coordination with Ministry of Education – Rafah during the period from Oct. 18th to Oct. 20th, 2014 within the series of awareness rising workshops that target adolescent students at secondary schools, 60 students targeted, under the umbrella of “Emergency Legal Assistance to the Affected People in Rafah Due to the 2014 War on Gaza Project”, supported by UNSP/PAPP, which provides legal aids to the vulnerable and the affected groups due to Gaza war 2014, which comes within the series of legal aid projects, which established Legal Aid Clinic No.9 within, to support the vulnerable groups legally.

In the first workshop, Mr. Belal El-Najjar –a volunteer advocate in the project- talked about the methods of providing legal aid to the vulnerable groups in accordance to the rights of children granted by agreements and international conventions such as: right to education, right to housing and right to health. Mr. El-Najjar talked also about the protection the International Humanitarian Law granted to children women and vulnerable groups during wars and armed clashes, and talked about the role of the legal aid clinic in providing legal aid to the affected people due to Gaza war 2014.
Sunday, Oct. 19th, 2014 [02:30 PM – 04:30 PM]
In the second workshop, Mr. El-Najjar held, talked about the International courts for the trial of war criminals, how do they form and hold, and the extent of their competence. Then he talked about the formation of mock courts, the methods of legal aid and their competence with international human rights standards. And at the end of the workshop, the students expressed their happiness to and interest on knowing these information.

In the third workshop, Mr. El-Najjar continued the series of legal awareness rising workshops talking about the right of the vulnerable groups to express opinion, the importance of respect for the opinions of others, equality in rights among family members, and the importance of rooting the values of justice and equality in the Palestinian society. He also focused on the experience and the efforts of the Legal Aid Clinic with the last four years to provide legal aid to the vulnerable groups and Emergency Legal Assistance to the Affected People in Rafah Due to the 2014 War on Gaza Project.
At the end of the workshop, with the attendance of Mr. Hossam Jarghon –the project coordinator- and Mrs. Suad Al-Mashni –the advocate of Legal Aid clinic No.9- Mr. Asad Al-Sarafandy –the supervisor of Ber-Al-Saba’a secondary school (B)- talked thankfully to the society about this distinctive activity that benefited the students with new information, and asking the society to continue holding such these distinctive activities, then Mr. Zeiad Qeshta –the director of Cultural and Educational Activities Department at Ministry of Education – Rafah talked thankfully about the society and its various activities which benefit students asking to continue holding such these activities in whole schools covered by Ministry of Education in Rafah, and thanked the trainer, Mr. El-Najjar. On the other hand, Mr. Jarghon thanked both Ministry of Education, represented by Mr. Qeshta and Mr. Al-Sarafandy on the cooperation and the efforts they expended to ensure the success of these workshops.
