1- Networking and Coordinating with Civil Society Organization :

The work staff continued executing some visits to civil society organizations CSOs and CBOs for the purpose of networking and coordinating during April as the following :

A visit hold to Hawa Future Association to coordinate for legal awareness raising workshop to be executed on 25th April2012.

On 17th April 2012

A visit hold to Rafah Farmers Charity Association to coordinate for legal awareness raising workshop to be executed on 26th April2012.

2- Internal and External  Meetings:

Internal Meetings:

v The First Meeting:

With cooperation between the chairman of the association, Ibrahim Muammar, and the project`s coordinator Ahmad Srour, the whole work staff of the project  were invited for an internal meeting to discuss an important points:

The meeting`s agenda:

ü Develop an action plan for the project activities.

ü Coordinate  and network plan with CSOs, partners and universities.

ü Communication.

ü Legal representation for legitimate issues.

ü Preparation for some publications such as poster, booklet.

v The Second Meeting:

This meeting toke place on 12th April2012. The whole work staff of the project gathered to discuss the following points according the meeting`s agenda.

The meeting`s agenda:

ü The poster related to the project

ü Training material

ü Communication and mobile cards.

ü Coordinating and networking with CSOs and CBOs to initiate the implementation of the project`s activities.

ü Participating in the training of new lawyers and journalists.

External Meeting:

1- The legal aid providers` network`s meeting :

The work staff of the partners within the southern region represented in National Society for Democracy and Law, Free Thought and Culture and Jesoor Association gathered in Free Thought and Culture headquarter in order to discuss the joint activities and search the available opportunities to strengthen mutual cooperation.

The meeting`s Agenda:

ü Presentation for 5 minutes for the project achievements of each organization.

ü The edition of AWN newspaper.

ü Planning for TOT training.

ü Control over justice sector.

2- The meeting with UNDP representatives:

The whole work staff of the three partners represented in National Society for Democracy and Law and the Free Thought and Culture were invited for a meeting with UNDP`s representatives in the UNDP headquarter. The meeting was headed by both Mr. Ibrahim Abu Shamalah, deputy manager of the rule of law program and Daowd El-Massri, the program analyst. The meeting agenda concluding some important points on the table:

ü Brief outlines for the projects of Promoting the right to development and human dignity.

ü Focus on the important points and activities in the project`s activities.

ü Training the new lawyers

ü Coordinating with civil society organizations to exchange interests between each other

ü The permanent secretary of legal aid providers network (AWN).

ü The periodical meeting between partners and the mechanism to develop it and increase interests.

ü Data base.

ü Capacity building program in the next week that involved with Project cycle management and proposal writing.

3-Legal Aid:

Awareness Workshops:

v The First Workshop:

With cooperation and coordination with Hawa Future Society, the legal clinic no.(9) ,within National Society for Democracy and Law NSDL in southern Gaza Strip, launched the first workshop of awareness campaign entitled “Advocate”, on 25th April2012, in Hawa Future Society headquarter, this is in the framework of the project of ” Promoting the Right to Development and Enhancing Vulnerable Groups’ Access to Basic Services ” DAFE'” supported by the UNDP/PAPP. The workshop targeted (44) ladies of homemakers and Muslim advocates.

v The Second Workshop:

With cooperation and coordination with Rafah Farmers Charity Society, the legal clinic no.(9) ,within National Society for Democracy and Law NSDL in southern Gaza Strip, launched the second workshop entitled” Excerpts of the Palestinian Labor Law no.7 in 2000″ in the framework  of awareness campaign entitled Advocate, on 26th April2012, in Rafah Farmer Charity Society headquarter, this is in the framework of the project of ” Promoting the Right to Development and Enhancing Vulnerable Groups’ Access to Basic Services ” DAFE'” supported by the UNDP/PAPP. The workshop targeted (28)persons of farmers and labors in El-Nasser, one of the isolated and marginalized regions in Rafah governorate.

4- Legal Consultations :

The lawyer of legal clinic no.(9) provided (4) legal consultations for target beneficiaries, two of them were legitimate issues and the others are systematic issues.

5- Training

Capacity Building Training:

1-The first training:

The work staff of the project of “Promoting the Right to Development and Enhancing Vulnerable Groups’ Access to Basic Services”, within National Society for Democracy and Law NSDL participated in an intensive course organized by Network of Legal Aid Providers (AWN) on 8th April2012 ,in Al-Mothaf Hotel. The training entitled “Project Management”. It focused on various topics as the following:

Training Agenda:

ü Proposal Writing steps.

ü Problem tree analysis.

ü Objective tree analysis .

ü Logical Framework Approach.

2-The second training:

The lawyer of legal clinic participated in a legal training program of (20) training hours that initiated on Sunday, 29th April2012 ,implemented by The Palestinian Center of Human Rights PCHR, in PCHR`s headquarter. The training schedule concluded some legal topics as seen bellow:

Training Schedule:

ü Human rights and the tools to achieve justice.

ü Universal declaration of human rights.

ü International covenant related to economical, social and cultural rights.

ü International covenant of civilian and political rights.

ü The role of prosecutors, judges and lawyers in protection and promoting human rights, international jurisdiction and file building,

6- Future Plan for the Next Month:

According to the project`s action plan, the staff of the project will execute the following activities during the next month:

  • Conducting (4) legal awareness workshops.
  • Providing legal consultations for beneficiaries as possible.
  • Legal representation on legitimate issues in front of the court.
  • Transferring cases to PBA for legal representation.
  • A workshop under the item of support the referral system wit professional unions will be hold.
  • A workshop on the right to development will be taken place .
  • Initiate the executing of a study around the right to development.
  • Training for men of reform and reconciliation.

Awareness Raising Workshop no.(1):

National Society for Democracy and Law NSDL launch the Legal Awareness Campaign Entitled “Advocate” in Rafah Governorate southern Gaza Strip.

Legal aid no.(9)launched the first workshop entitled “Excerpts of Personal Status Law” under the awareness raising campaign “Advocate” on Wedenseday,25th April2012.

With cooperation and coordination with Hawa Future Society, the legal clinic no.(9) ,within National Society for Democracy and Law NSDL in southern Gaza Strip, launched the first workshop of awareness campaign entitled “Advocate”, on 25th April2012, in Hawa Future Society headquarter, this is in the framework of the project of ” Promoting the Right to Development and Enhancing Vulnerable Groups’ Access to Basic Services ” DAFE'” supported by the UNDP/PAPP. The workshop targeted (44) ladies of homemakers and Muslim advocates.

Mr.Emad El-Faqawi, the lawyer of the project in the society, administered the workshop and began a welcome word for the audience. He provided a brief introduction about the project of Promoting the Right to Development and the three basic axes it will worked on: providing legal aid services on its three main levels, framing the concept of the right to development as a binding legal obligation and supporting the community reconciliation.

The workshop topic focused on excerpt of Personal Status Law applied in the courts of Gaza, it emphasized on the concept of marriage linguistically and idiomatically, the current possibility of women’s status with the terms of the marriage contract and he noted the effects ensuing on the marriage contract as the right on dowry, alimony and enrolling the children to their parent and inheritance between spouses.

The workshop included some of the live issues raised for discussion of and responding to queries of the participants, where participants expressed their satisfaction about the importance of the topic of the workshop and the urgent need of the society for Legal Aid services and they asked to hold several workshops in this area to increase their legal awareness .

At the end of the workshop, El-Fiqaawi emphasized that legal clinic number (9) will do its utmost to promote the right to development for vulnerable groups and enhance their access to basic social services through continued activation of legal aid system and work of legal approach as an entry point for the  Economic and Social empowerment.

In addition ,he focused on the  mechanism to resign according to the law terms and the labor rights arising from the unfair dismissal and the procedures can be taken according to the legal text of the Palestinian labor law ..

The workshop included some of the live issues raised for discussion and responding to queries of the participants, where participants expressed their satisfaction about the importance of the topic of the workshop and the urgent need of the society for Legal Aid services also, they asked to hold several workshops in this area to increase their legal awareness .
