The National Society for Democracy and Law (NSDL) organized a Session entitled “Mechanisms of Reconciliatory Figures to Deal with Post-war Family Problems”, within the activities of “Emergency Legal Assistance to the Affected People in Rafah Due to the 2014 War on Gaza Project”, supported by UNDP/PAPP, which provides legal aids to the vulnerable and the affected groups due to Gaza war 2014, by UNDP/PAPP.

Project coordinator, Hossam Jarghon and the representative Palestinian Bar Association in Rafah, the advocate Hamada Mukhaimar, the representative of Rafah Clans Committee, Mukhtar Ayesh Younus, and a number of advocates, reconciliatory figures and Mukhtars from Rafah.

Mr. Jarghon opened the workshop welcoming the guests and the attendance, and then he talked about the project, the legal aid clinic and its activities in providing legal consultations, legal awareness raising and for free legal representation before Islamic Sharia courts, and the role of reconciliatory figures in solving the cases the legal aid clinic receive before referring them to the course in order to achieve a just and a comprehensive social reconciliation. Mr. Jarghon also stressed on the importance of cooperation between the legal aid clinic and the informal judiciary frameworks (clans and reconciliatory committees) in order to provide a comprehensive legal awareness raising to the vulnerable groups, especially the affected groups due to the last war on the Gaza Strip.

After Mr. Jarghon, Mukhtar Younus talked about the main obstacles the reconciliatory figures face in solving family problems, the reasons of these problems, and what hinder the reconciliatory figures in secure and access to justice. Then, Mukhtar Younus talked about problems sponsors face in financial disclosure cases.

From his part, the advocate Hamada Mukhaimar illustrated the proper mechanisms and methods people must the follow in solving family problems according to the Palestinian law and traditions talking about the main mistakes reconciliatory figures commit and how to correct in order to reach a just solution satisfies both parties of the problem.

Several inquiries and discussions has been raised about family problems, especially which post-war problems, and mechanisms to solve these problems in order to secure role of law promotion and access to justice.
